Zefiro Experience review: small-group catamaran days from Palau with lunch, prices and what to expect

Zefiro Experience runs small-group catamaran days into the Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago di La Maddalena from pier 5 in Palau. The formula is simple and has not changed much over the years: twelve guests, a skipper and crew, an aperitif, a cooked lunch and drinks through the day, and three or four anchorages chosen for the wind. The company is registered on La Maddalena and sells through its own site and most of the big platforms.

Zefiro Experience reviews are numerous and consistent, and, unusually for this coast, the company publishes its prices month by month. If you are comparing a Zefiro Experience La Maddalena day with the motor ships on the same quay, here is what we verified and what to watch.

What they offer

Three tiers of shared day are sold, described on the site as Classic (“pure sailing”), Comfort (“open living”) and Premium (“full design”). The differences are in the boat, not the day: every tier is a full-day excursion of about seven hours with the same inclusions. A fourth product is exclusive rental of the whole catamaran for four to eight hours, for groups of fourteen to twenty.

The itinerary page names Spargi, the Porto della Madonna pools between Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria, and Caprera as the stops, depending on wind and crowds. In practice that means Cala Corsara or a neighbouring cove on Spargi, a swim in the shallow pools with the Spiaggia Rosa of Budelli viewed from the water (landing has been forbidden since 1994), and a Caprera anchorage such as Cala Coticcio on the way home. The site’s own description of escursioni at a slow, relaxed rhythm is accurate: you will not see all seven islands.

Departure is 09:30, with check-in 30 minutes earlier, and the return around 16:00–16:30. The site states that departures from Cannigione and Baja Sardinia were moved to Palau to cut transit time; an older page still lists Cannigione and Baja Sardinia times, so trust the pier written on your confirmation.

Insider tip: Book a mid-June or mid-September date. The company’s own table shows the same day for €120 instead of the €160 August price, the water is 20–23 °C, and the pools at Porto della Madonna are far less crowded.

Boats and comfort

The catamaran page does not give models, lengths or the number of boats; it describes them as spacious and well maintained, with the Premium tier as the most designed. Snorkel kits are supplied to every guest. Because deck plans are not published, ask whether the boat you are booked on has a toilet and how much shade the cockpit gives; on a seven-hour day in July that matters more than the tier name. Shared days are capped at twelve guests; private rentals take up to twenty, so a private group will feel busier on deck than a shared day.

Prices and what’s included

Zefiro Experience prices, as published on the company’s own site in September 2026 for the full-day Classic experience, adult (11 and over):

Children aged 1–10 are listed at €50 in May and late season and €70 in June and mid-September; the table does not give a child price for July and August, so ask. Infants under one travel free. The homepage adds “from €130” for the Premium tier and “from €1,320” for exclusive rental. Platform prices differ slightly: CheckYeti showed the Classic day at €142 and the luxury day at €152 when we checked.

Included, per the site: the park entrance fee, the aperitif with local products, lunch with local products, an afternoon snack, Sardinian wine, prosecco and digestifs (reviewers mention mirto), water and soft drinks all day, and snorkel gear. Not included: transfers to the pier and drinks beyond what is served. A missed departure forfeits the ticket but can be rescheduled to another date in the same year.

What customers say

Tripadvisor showed a 4.8 rating from 121 reviews, ranking 23rd of 119 tours and activities in La Maddalena; CheckYeti showed 5.0 from 52 reviews for the Classic day (both September 2026). The themes:

• Food: a pasta course with seconds offered, antipasti of Sardinian products, and unlimited drinks are mentioned again and again.
• Crew: described as organised and knowledgeable about the islands, with several reviews calling the day relaxed rather than rushed.
• Water: swimming and snorkelling in the pools and at Spargi are what people write about most.

The complaint we found is dated: an August 2021 review reports the tour being cancelled minutes before departure over a booking error despite an SMS confirmation. We saw nothing similar in recent reviews, but it is a reason to keep your confirmation handy and arrive for the 09:00 check-in.

Departure logistics

Pier 5 is on the tourist port in Palau, where the site notes large parking; free spaces fill by 9:30 in August, so use the paid multi-storey car park. From La Maddalena island, take a Delcomar or Maddalena Lines ferry (15–20 minutes) and allow time to walk round to the tour piers. Olbia airport is about 40 km away. Who should book it, and who should not

Book Zefiro Experience if you want a small group, a full meal with wine, and a slow day with long swims. It suits couples, groups of friends and families with children old enough for a long day on the water; the reduced fare for ages 1–10 and the stable catamaran help.
