GetYourGuide La Maddalena review: catalogue, cancellation rules and what to watch

GetYourGuide is the platform behind almost every “check availability” button on this site, so a GetYourGuide La Maddalena review from us needs to be more than a pat on the back. The short version: for boat tours from Palau and La Maddalena town it has the deepest online catalogue, the clearest cancellation rule, and support that speaks your language. It is not cheaper than buying from the kiosk, and it does not pay the cash park contribution for you.

Review counts are large on the classic boats: the four-stop tour from Palau showed 2,330 reviews at 4.5, and the catamaran with lunch 2,235 at 4.9, according to the listings in September 2026. Newer products, such as the small-group hybrid boat from La Maddalena town, had a single review, so treat their ratings with caution.

Cancellation: the 24-hour rule and how weather is handled

GetYourGuide’s general terms (version dated 1 October 2025, clause 10.4) set the default: cancel more than 24 hours before the start and the booking price is refunded in full; cancel within 24 hours, or fail to show up, and nothing is refunded. A listing can state stricter or looser conditions, and every product we link to carried the standard free 24-hour cancellation when we checked in September 2026.

Two practical details from the same terms:

• Cancellations and date changes must be made through the platform (clause 10.2), not by phoning the skipper. The timestamp that counts is when GetYourGuide receives your request.
• Refunds go back to the original payment method, or, if you prefer, to a GetYourGuide refund gift card (clause 10.5).

Weather is the real risk in this archipelago. The terms allow the supplier to cancel when external circumstances such as adverse weather make the activity impossible or dangerous, and in that case the booking price is refunded. When the mistral blows, the operator usually messages you the evening before or early the same morning; you can then rebook another day or take the refund. Insider tip: A 10:00 departure means your free-cancellation window closes at 10:00 the previous day. Check the marine forecast for the Bocche di Bonifacio at breakfast the day before, not the night before.

Reserve now, pay later

Clause 8.2 of the terms explains the mechanism. On selected activities you can book without paying: GetYourGuide places a zero-euro authorisation on a credit card that must be valid on the tour date, then debits the full price 72 hours before the start. If the charge fails you have 47 hours to pay manually, otherwise the booking is cancelled automatically. It only works with a credit card, and the activity must offer free cancellation with instant confirmation.

For August, when the cheapest boats sell out first, this lets you hold a seat while you finish planning, at no cost.

Mobile tickets, languages and support

Your voucher arrives by e-mail and sits in the GetYourGuide app. The Palau ticket kiosks scan the code from a phone; we have never been asked for a printout. The voucher carries the operator’s emergency number and the meeting point, which for Palau is a numbered pier on the tourist port.

Customer service is reachable through the help centre, phone, live chat and e-mail; the terms say the team typically responds within 24 hours and at the latest within 48. The site and app run in localised versions, so a French or German traveller gets the listing and the support flow in their language, which is the main reason we point non-Italian speakers here rather than to a kiosk.

Price parity versus booking direct

Do not expect a discount. Prices on the platform match the operators’ own list prices, and the platform’s commission is paid by the supplier out of that price (clause 3.2). GetYourGuide offers best price matching (clause 7): if the same activity from the same supplier, same date and inclusions, is cheaper elsewhere, they refund the difference on proof.

Where the pier can win is cash: some Palau kiosks give a few euros off for walk-in cash sales the evening before. You then lose free cancellation and, if the boat stays in port, you are negotiating a refund face to face. See the operators hub for which companies sell at the kiosk.

How reviews are verified

According to GetYourGuide’s supplier help centre (article updated 21 April 2026), only customers who booked and completed the activity are invited to review, by an automatic e-mail with two reminders. Recent reviews count more toward the overall rating. Reviews are moderated and removed only in defined cases, for example a documented no-show reported within 24 hours or content that breaks the guidelines. Suppliers can reply but cannot delete a review.

Two consequences for you. A 4.5 with 2,000 reviews is a stable signal; a 5.0 with three reviews is not. And a low score sometimes reflects a mistral cancellation handled badly rather than the boat itself, because reviews can cover the whole booking process.

Insider tip: Sort reviews by most recent and read the ones from July and August. Crowding at Cala Corsara and the length of the lunch stop change a lot between June and peak season.

The downsides, honestly

• Ranking is not neutral: the terms state that revenue, including the commission a supplier pays, is one of the ranking factors. Top of the list is not the same as best.
• Many listings exclude the park or landing contribution, paid in cash at check-in; one Santa Teresa listing quotes €5 per person. Read “Not included” before you go.
• GetYourGuide cannot issue a tax invoice for a booking, only a payment confirmation (clause 8.1).
• Operator no-shows are rare but happen; they are handled through support, which means a refund rather than a boat that morning.
• Reserve now, pay later requires a credit card; debit cards do not qualify.

Who should use it, and who should not

Book on GetYourGuide if you travel in July or August and want a seat you can still cancel, if you want support in your own language, or if you are choosing between a catamaran and a motorboat and want the reviews side by side. Skip it if you are already in Palau with a flexible day, a clear forecast and cash in hand; the kiosk will serve you just as well.
